Candice James served 2 three-year terms as Poet Laureate of New Westminster, BC (2010-2016) and was appointed Poet Laureate Emerita by City Council in November.2016.  She is author of 26 books of poetry.  Her first book ‘A Split in the Water was published by Fiddlehead Poetry Books 1979; “The Path of Loneliness” was published by Inanna Publications October  2020; and her most recent book "Behind The One-Way Mirror" was published by Silver Bow Publishing in Sept 2022.

Candice is also a visual artist; with her work on display at The Gallery on 12th, New Westminster, BC.

She is a professional musician, singer/songwriter; performance poet and workshop facilitator. Her awards include: Bernie Legge Artist/Cultural Award; and Pandora’s Collective Citizenship Award.

She is founder of 'Royal City Literary Arts Society'; 'The Fred Cogswell Award for Excellence in Poetry'; and reading series 'Poetic Jusice';  'Poetry in the Park'; 'Poetry New Westminster'; and Slam Central.  

Candice is past president of 'The Federation of BC Writers''; 'Royal City Literary Arts Society'. and 'Slam Central'.
